Live Sphagnum Moos 2nd choice
Live and winter hardy Sphagnum moss. The moss is fully functional and contains few green tips.
Usability for moor beds:
Simply spread the sphagnum moss on the surface of the moor bed and keep it moist/wet constantly.
After a couple of weeks you can already see new patches of fresh new moss growing.
Usability in terraristics:
Having sphagnum moss in a terrarium leads to higher humidity, a better climate and hinders mold-growth due to its antiseptic effect.
This very aesthetic moss can be used as cushions or padding on the floor and sides of the terrarium or simply for decorative reasons. This way you create a beautiful natural environment for your pet.
Especially suitable for snakes, frogs, geckos and other terrarium animals. Sphagnum moss has a purifying effect on water and releases oxygen. Smaller fishes can use it as a spawning ground. Sphagnum moss can also be found in aquariums for shrimp, as they can use it for foraging.
Sphagnum moss is an excellent substrate for amphibians, snakes, lizards, frogs, tortoises etc. It works very well as a substrate for egg deposition or for hibernation.
Usability with Orchids:
Sphagnum moss has been used for the cultivation of Orchids for many years, both for garden and room Orchids. Sphagnum moss is an important component of Orchid soil. It retains enormous amounts of water and provides the Orchids roots constantly and evenly with moisture. It has sterilizing properties and hinders growth of putrid (rotting) bacteria due to its antiseptic effect.
Optimal storage conditions:
Storage inside:
Sphagnum can be very well stored in a see-through container (e.g.: a vase or a jar). It has to be see-through so that the moss can get enough sunlight.
Make sure that the moss stays moist or wet at all times. Don`t put it in direct sunlight, it could burn the tips. If you store it in an air-tight container, the moss will stay moist and has to be watered less frequently.
Storage outside:
We recommend putting some peat in a planting pot standing in a shadowy spot outside. Place the moist/wet moss on top of the peat. Water it and keep it wet.
1kg live Sphagnum Moss has got a volume of about 5-8 litres
